About Us
Camden, Maine massage therapist Kate McMorrow grew
tired of reading the mostly negative political slogans on bumper
stickers and T-shirts speaking out against the war in Iraq, so she
founded thepeacevisionproject.com Through her website, she sells
products with a positive, pro-peace message. McMorrow was compelled
to create the website after joining the anti-Iraq war protests at
Camp Casey in Crawford, Texas, in 2005.
"When I saw the monumental sacrifices people
were making, I wanted to step up and do a whole lot more than I was
doing" She said. "I thought I might create a product that was
affordable so that more people could participate and that the
message of peace could spread infinitely. It seems important to
keep images of peace alive as part of our everyday awareness, to
honor those on the front lines and remind ourselves to act
peacefully."
We feature shirts and stickers that have what
McMorrow calls a more unifying message. Slogans include Peace is
My Prayer, CULTIVATE PEACE, and Peace in my heart, and Peace Rocks! We chose
fair-trade/sweatshop free manufacturers because I realized I
wouldn't feel at peace knowing that someone on the other side of
the world worked for pennies a day in a sweatshop, or was being exposed to harmful
insecticides making my "peace" T-shirt, she said.
We donate a portion of the proceeds to
peace-promoting organizations such as Veterans for Peace and
CodePink and Gold Star Families for Peace. I wanted
to increase the amount of money I could personally donate to the
peace movement, she said. I also wanted to create an easy way for
others to participate. The use of fair-trade, sweatshop free,
organic cotton/hemp T's with a non-divisive, pro-peace message is a
singular combination, McMorrow said. There are lots of sites that
offer some of these qualities, but I've not seen one with all of
them.
